James and Tim Freedman have Co-Written a song together for the NEW
Whitlams double album "Little Cloud". The song is "Beautiful As You". Those

beautiful as the writer's muse: his love at home. Tim & James's new version,
Track 3 on Disc 2 of The Whitlams March 19th Album (out this Sunday),
centers more around New York and the tales that relate closely to Tim's time
in the Big Apple. The song was produced in Sydney by David Nicholas (Elton John) at Studios

'Dream Trader' named as 1st single off UK album "Second Season".

With the song already receiving Radio play on Dublin's 104FM, 'Dream Trader'
has been announced as the 1st single in the UK & Ireland off James's UK
version of "Second Season".
James and his band The Protectors will be playing the single as part of
their live set launching the album at London's Troubadour club on Feb 16th.
The song is a story of thinking big in a think-small age, and trading in
Dreams for bigger, better ones. With a great acoustic folk/pop sound, the
song rocks, without being a heavy rock track. Featured on the track are
Drums, Bass and Harmonica by Michael Carpenter, and Backing Vocals by
James's brother Greg.

For your chance to win a pair of tickets to James's launch on the 16th Feb
just answer this question: Which Australian city is mentioned in a bridge of

US Album Released !!!
It has been 2 years in the making but today the finely crafted debut album 'SECOND SEASON' from Singer/Songwriter James Cooper is finally available for you to take home. With a late August release in the US from his indie label Paisley Pop, the album is now available online to buy. Buy Second Season at www.paisleypop.com or www.notlame.com

"Second Season" features 10 original tracks written by James both in Southern France and in Sydney. The outstanding debut was co-produced by Michael Carpenter (78 Saab, YouthGroup, the City Lights), Michael McGlynn and James and was recorded in Sydney in both Carpenter's own studio and Sony Music Studios.

Here's what one writer had to say about the album...
"...The stand out tracks - the rollicking opener ‘Everything To Everyone’, the gentle, pretty, train-inspired ballad ‘Beautiful As You’, and the brassy ‘Save Me From Love’ over which one just imagine George Martin and a horn section salivating - display a subtle mastery of art of gradually building the listener's expectations, satisfying them, taking the levels down again only to let them ring out again in a lusty, final wash. And yet there are breaks from the formula, too: the sombre yet stirring piano ballad ‘Sammy’ much more sparsely produced than the rest of the album, with sensitive guitar and cello flourishes on top of the insistent, melancholy piano chords; the thumping bass tones of ‘Christine’, and the gentle lullaby ‘Really Miss You’, which provides a delightful closer... listeners should take very seriously Cooper's exhortation to 'try falling in love in London' - his current home - because it, or something similar, is just what the residents of his adopted city may be doing as he starts to gig there more often. With him." – Jonathan Richards is a London-based freelance writer who has written for The Times and The Independent.

Read the full review of Second Season at http://www.james-cooper.com/press.htm

Or hear what Not Lame Recordings Label Boss Bruce Brodeen had to say, "Holy Cow!. This is what our mission at Not Lame is all, *all* about folks. Let`s get this out, up front. *Big Time Extremely Highly Recommended*. Not sure I`ve even done that before in 10 years, but what they hey, this one is worth it."

The album features guest appearances from the 'Home & Away' featured pop duo Butterfly9's Suzy Connolly singing gorgeous backing vocals on "Beautiful As You", a 6 part horn section on "Save Me From Love" sublime cello on "Sammy" and a family gathering of sorts with James' brother Greg lending his vocals to the standouts "Everything To Everyone" and "Love In London".

James will be slinging on his Maton guitar and jumping onstage to play a homecoming show for one night only in Sydney at the Hopetoun Hotel, Surry Hills on Sept 21st before he ventures back to London. He will perform tracks off the debut and new songs written whilst living recently in London. James will be supporting a fantastic new Sydney based 60's styled mystery group the supahip.

An Australian Edition of the album is expected early in the new year however it will have a different track listing and different artwork so if you're in Australia grab your copy of the US version today!

Thanks to those who came to both the Bull&Gate and Pleasure Unit Shows over the last 2 weeks in London.  Joining the line-up was Les-Paul wielding London based Guitarist Matt Peckham and James' brother, Sydney based Guitarist/Keyboardist/vocalist Greg Cooper.  With the addition of Matt and Greg to the side songs like "Christine" and "Everything To Everyone" came alive on stage and gave a taste of things to come in 2005.  James has been doing some writing, and the band will be rehearsing over the next few weeks.  James' Tuesday 8th Feb show has been cancelled but expect a string of London March dates to be announced soon.  Keep watch of the Tour page

An exciting last week in London for James & his band.

Playing to crammed capacity at the Betsey Trotwood (London) on Thursday night, James performed solo, until mid-way through the set he was joined by John Bergdahl on Bass & Graz Bergdahl on Drums and they launched into a smashing three piece rendition of ‘Beautiful As You’.  To the band’s surprise crowd members were singing along, and dancing!  Then recounting getting lost in Paris, ‘Couch In Montmatre’ saw many smiles.  An unexpected twist took the boys into White Album territory with a cover of Lennon’s ‘Dear Prudence’
dove-tailing into a funk break down with 2 part harmonies.

Sunday then saw James play his first show at Camden’s Barfly Club .   A special winter’s afternoon show: James performed some new songs never before performed in the UK.  Stay tuned for pics up soon on the ‘gallery’ section of the site.
